This blog started when I owned and MZ Skorpion Traveller and a bike magazine dismissed it with the phrase 'you can't tour on a single'. The Skorpion's gone and I now have a Triumph Bonneville, but I can't be bothered changing the title of the blog!
Thanks Larry! I'd never heard of the Flecktones before, so looked them up. Here's the first part of 'Sinister Minister', (it's so long that it's over YouTube's 10 minute limit). Superb musicianship, unusual instruments (an electric banjo and a 'synthaxe'), and some berserk bass playing in part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TPBmyFsfyPc
Bela Fleck, the banjo player, did an album of classical music that I have in my car CD player for Holiday music. All the musicians that have been associated with the Flecktones are pretty amazing. The Synthaxe and bass players are brothers, and I believe they originally hail from the Sacramento, California area. The synthaxe is a one of a kind instrument created by the player. I saw Bela recently on public TV playing with another group I can't remember the name of just now. He really stretches banjo playing into new territory.
Lefties have always struck me as a bit sinister.
ReplyDelete...which reminds me of a tune on a 'Flecktones' album called 'Sinister Minister'...
